Historic Launch for Media Dialogue

The long-awaited social dialogue between the IFJ and the WAZ media group, Germany's second largest publishing company, is off the ground following a launch meeting on Wednesday (May 14) at the historic Zollverein coal mine complex in Essen. The meeting brought together managers and union representatives from eight countries.

The results -- a regional campaign to challenge unethical conduct and corruption in journalism; agreement to launch a journalism prize later this year; creation of a regional ombudsman council to deal with complaints against media; and, not least, within two years, the preparation of a company-wide contract for journalists.
